USC has suffered greatly in the area of offensive and defensive line development. The trench development going forward will define how the running and passing game evolves. The program has gone through too many changes and in some cases lack of change when required post-Carroll. It just doesn't get any easier to build a program when you invest in the right staff and commitment to winning the O Line and D Line. Anything short of this attitude is a guarantee to fail.
Josh Henson: Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach
Josh Henson could end up being the best hire that Lincoln Riley has made for USC football. Former tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator at LSU from 2005-2008, Henson earned a Natty after he built and developed out back-to-back top 10 recruiting classes at LSU in 2006 and 2007.
He was the co-offensive line coach from 2009-2012 for Mizzou, and the OC and O-Line coach from 2013-2015. A number of his linemen were drafted (4) from his tenure there before he departed to coach at his alma mater in Oklahoma State where he was an offensive analyst in 2016 and offensive line coach from 2017 to 2018. Since he's been the Offensive Line coach at Texas A&M where he coached a two-time All-American in Kenyon Green and coached up the best offensive line in the SEC this past year.
Josh has the world as his oyster and as he goes so goes the offense and indirectly the defense. This team needs to control the line and control the clock. It starts right here and the program from a development and recruitment perspective is in good hands with Coach Hanson.
Shaun Nua: USC Football Defensive Line Coach
Shaun Nua returns to the West to USC football after taking a break from the West Coast coaching scene. Most recently the defensive line coach for Michigan since 2019 after managing and developing the same position in 2018 with Arizona State. He was also the Defensive Line coach for the Navy from 2012-2017 where the Navy dominated the trenches and drove one of the best all-around running attacks seen during that era. At Michigan we alls saw what he has done coaching Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo at Michigan, who is projected to go in the draft this year as top 15 picks, Nua will turn out to be a solid hire by Coach Riley and paired with Hanson the two should be the "Key" as USC moves to return to the glory years of the past.
